Ok, the original concept was really cool: secondary school students produce their short films (we provide cameras, instruct them), and then we showcase their movies at a festival. Invite guests, bring popcorn, have a chat on cinematography and why short films are kicking out in the 21st century.
The first part went really well: boarding school kids have never had a chance to do something different from what normally happens in classrooms, so IT labs were always overcrowded during movie production weeks.
The first edition of the short film festival was help last Thursday in Queen's College - girls school in Lagos. I was really curious why we needed to invite a DJ, but my management insisted - o'k, it's not me who's paying.
In ah hour it became clear: girls started dancing at the sound of music. What? Movies? NO - soundtracks!
This didn't look even similar to what I call "film festival" (pop-corn, posh public, juries, awards) - but was a great party instead with people dancing on the tables and chairs, all-time applause (during the movies and after and before).
Will post some pictures as soon as I have better internet.
And the second edition is coming soon, everyone welcome!
